Should dog meat festival continue?

Despite online outcry from animal rights activists, the dog meat festival in Yulin, Guanxi, will go ahead next Friday in Yulin, Guangxi. Thousands of diners are expected to crowd food streets, and more than 10,000 dogs are estimated to be killed for use in hotpot. Efforts to block the festiva – including open letters to the Yulin government, recruitment of celebrities to condemn the practice and even petitioning to the US White House – seemed to have gone in vain. Do you think Yulin locals should be allowed to continue hosting their dog meat festival?

No. Zhejiang province cancelled its 600-year-old traditional dog meat festival in 2011. Eating dog meat is brutal and uncivilized, and it encourages the abduction of strays.
